The Fraternal Order of Eagles (FOE) is an international nonprofit organization. It unites fraternally in the spirit of liberty, truth, justice, and equality, to make human life more desirable by lessening its ills, and by promoting peace, prosperity, gladness and hope.

On February 6, 1898, the F.O.E. was founded by six Seattle theatre owners gathered to discuss a musician's strike. After addressing the matter, they agreed to "bury the hatchet" and form "The Order of Good Things."
As numbers grew, members selected the Bald Eagle as the official emblem and changed the name to "The Fraternal Order of Eagles." The women's Auxiliary traces its roots to 1927.
 
Throughout our history, the F.O.E. has hosted some of the most prestigious individuals in North America:
They include seven presidents of the United States; Theodore Roosevelt, Warren G. Harding, Franklin D. Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, Harry S. Truman, Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan. Legendary athletes including Baseball Hall of Famers Babe Ruth, Cy Young, Honus Wagner, Stan Musial and Joe DiMaggio; Pro Football Hall of Famers Jim Thorpe, Bob Griese, Ray Nitschke, Len Dawson and Jim Kelly; Nascar Drivers Sam Hornish Jr., Tony Stewart, and James Buescher have graced our halls. Celebrities including Bob Hope, Jimmy Durante, Billy Ray Cyrus, Tony Orlando, Tom Parks, Lee Greenwood, Louise Mandrell, Debbie Reynolds, Wayne Newton and Neal McCoy are also members.
 
In 1904, Frank E. Herring delivered the first public plea for Mother's Day. More than 100 years later, the Eagles continue to uphold the tradition of Mother's Day honoring women who mean so much to us throughout the jurisdiction.
Eagles were highly influential in the creation of Old Age Pensions, Social Security, the Jobs After 40 Bill, and Medicare, Ensuring a better life for our senior citizens, Eagles also fought to preserve the right to publicly display the Ten Commandments, purchasing monoliths standing today throughout the United States.
 
The future success of the Fraternal Order of Eagles depends on having well-informed officers, members and employees, all with a strong commitment to the organization. Our Strategic Plan gives us an exciting and useful roadmap to prepare the F.O.E. for change in the future. Each member is a stakeholder in change - change for the good!
